Garmin Edge 500 sync

Postby garybx on Fri Jul 09, 2010 12:28 am

When I want to load my data from my Edge 500 into Ascent, I first plug in the unit and wait until it appears as a Device in the Finder window sidebar. Then, I try to initiate a Sync GPS command. First, I get a Device Removal warning and the Garmin momentarily disappears from the sidebar and the Sync seems to abort. Then, the Garmin reappears in the sidebar and I re-initiate the Sync command. This time, I still get another Device Removal warning, but the Sync continues to completion.

I'm glad that it ultimately works, but I'm wondering if others see this same behavior and if it is being addressed for a future update.

Thanks,
Gary

Yes, I have this happen too. I'd assumed it will be addressed in an update in due course.

Not sure this is a solution, but check your sync preferences. I have seen something similar when syncing my 705 and having the Garmin USB Sync box checked in addition to the Mass Storage Sync option.

I have both of those options checked in my Preferences.

Only check sync mass storage. Uncheck USB sync and it will work

Unchecking the USB sync worked!

I've tried all the combinations, including the ones recommended, but my Edge 500 won't sync at all. When the recommended boxes are selected, I get a very brief flash of the sync box on the screen but no files are transferred.

I'd use Ascent if this would work...

Is your GPS mounted on the Desktop before you run Ascent? I don't know if it makes any difference, but with the workflow that I use, the Garmin IS mounted by the time I run Ascent. As soon as Ascent loads in, I hit cmd-L to sync and it pulls in the data in a second or less. I don't even notice a sync box since it's so fast.
